Well, the school year started out smoothely with Nicholas choosing gymnastics and cross country to participate in and no soccer. I cannot even begin to tell you how nice it was to not be sitting out in the cold rain watching games each weekend. He ran in a couple of cross country meets and did very well. He loves to run and is a bit like Forrest Gump--he just keeps running. At school, he has been participating in the school-wide running program and is leading the way with miles. He also ran the most laps in our "Run for the Arts" program and was featured in the PTA newsletter. He turned 10 this month and was surprised to get a beebee gun for his birthday (not nearly as surprised as his mother...) I'm sure it will be perfectly safe--right????????
Charlotte is heavily into gymnastics preparing for her first competive season in the winter. She is absolutely loving school and especially her teacher. She spends a lot of time in "Australia" "Antarctica" and "Mexico" in her classroom. Yes, these are spots designed for "time out" for children who may be causing disruptions, but kids can also choose to go to them if they need a break. Well, Charlotte chooses to spend much of her time in one of the three. She says it helps her concentrate and she likes to listen to the music in "Mexico." We were a bit worried that she kept isolating herself, but her teacher assures us that it's fine and that it will probably die down. We'll see! Charlotte spends tons of time with friends from gymnastics, church and school. She is actually becoming somewhat social outside of school, maybe there's hope. Or, maybe I'll be wishing she wasn't quite so social. She wants sleepovers every week.
